“The essence of interior design will always be about people and how they live. It is about the realities of what makes for an attractive, civilized, meaningful environment, not about fashion or what’s in or what’s out.”

NRITYA SHAKTI
DANCE STUDIO | 3,000 Sq. Ft.

RECEPTION
While the studios serve as canvasses for the artists, the reception and common areas are in the spotlight, with an intention to form not just the language but the identity of the brand.
Terrazzo floors, walls with horizontal flutes and a suspended archway washed in warm lighting serve as the common space, binding the studios together.
STUDIOS
The three studios, with their varied color schemes, ensure a wide gamut of scenes for the purpose of content creation. Each wall is different yet cohesive, serving as multiple backdrops within the same space.
Wooden sprung floors, acoustically dampened surfaces and 8-foot-tall mirror walls are some of the key features that make these one of India’s foremost dance training institutes. Layered velvet curtains further aid in sound absorption while complimenting the aesthetic.

LIGHT & SOUND TREATMENTS
Customized undulating acoustic panels to dampen reverbs, bordered with programmable and sound responsive RGB lighting add to the vibrance in choreography.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The brief of the client was for a space to be as flexible as the dancers floating in it. Nritya Shakti Dance Studio is an institute that practices and imparts various dance forms as part of the curriculum.
The updated design centralized the reception area and admin spaces to form the spine and heart of the institute while branching off on either ends to form performance spaces.
Being central and private, the bridge, suspended above the common area, serves as the director’s lounge.
The studios are designed to morph two major requirements. A classroom-oriented setup for training and honing of skills; and a performance / recording layout. Each function is served by its own set of light fixtures, thereby transitioning between functions effortlessly. Programmable scene oriented down lighting allows faculty and students to customize the lights as per their acts and program smooth transitions mid routines.
